Great to have European Long Drive Champion Luke Curtis in the house this morning. *Save this vid for some footage of one of the most powerful moves in Europe!

Luke does long drive but he’s also one of those few individuals that can play golf too.

Today’s mission was to find shaft and head spec combo that are going to assist Luke’s Total Driving stat. Giving him the opportunity to take advantage of all that speed.
.
.
When you look at super high speed golfers playing golf to shoot a lower score you have to work on spec’s that are going to help give them more clear 2nd shots.
.
.
After we measured Luke’s load/unload pattern, surprise, surprise we were looking at heavy and stable shafts for max control.
.
.
We talked a lot about shape development for better strategic performance. And … the old school 80/20 tour stat for game management especially at Luke’s speed.
.
.
We’re getting close on the shaft but Proj X RDX Green 70gm TX and the #VENTUS TR BLACK were producing a workable fade that gave us more clear 2nd shots. . Cruisey distance average with a 45” driver of 345-363. TOTAL DRIVING is important folks.

Obvs I had to get Luke to wind a few up and pull out the 48” long fella. He only hit 3 and the last one was 212 ball speed and ran out to 414yds!!!!!! This set posted a new leader in our total driving stat. 358yds. OMG

Quickly becoming one of my favourite putting drills. Quite simply you can’t over do better alignment. Choosing the right putter starts with this.
1- Which shape/align tools will help me aim at my target, better?
2- which shape and putter set up allows me to address the ball in the centre of the face more consistently.
Get these two things right and you are well on your way to holing more. Bit of string, sounds too simple but actually unlocks so much👊 imagine adding Capto data into the mix.

Really interesting build coming of the bench this

Really interesting build coming of the bench this week. @golfmagic asked us to build a set of @mizunogolfeurope #243 irons with the most amazing @fujikura #axiom 105X shafts and Jumbo Max grips. Context: Alex is a strong guy and stability is definitely required for optimal performance. Graphite shafts under 120gms aren’t really on his radar. So at 105 grams we’re going lighter in iron shafts than he’s chosen before.
The Build: These @fujikura axiom though, feature velocore tech. It’s ultra high modus material that is designed for stability increasing the entire club’s MOI . Then we added a @jumbomax grip weighing in at 98 grams. The build vs performance becomes interesting here adding almost 50gms at the grip end changes balance point and traditional Swingweight values go out the window! In short we added 45+ grams to the weight of the club at the handle end. So DEAD WEIGHT is much heavier. SWING WEIGHT is much lighter. To give you an idea a std Tour velvet weighs just over 50gms and this build came in at D6 with those (see full spec below). With the Jumbo Max the build came in at C8.
The conundrum - do we add more weight to the head to achieve a more std swingweight (even though the dead weight is already significantly heavier). So I conducted a very scientific test… I picked the club up at C8 swingweight had a few swings and concluded it felt like a sledgehammer! Even at C8 (I use +1” over length clubs at D5)
The Result: So I gave them straight to Alex and he was skeptical about light swing weights and then ABSOLUTELY FLUSHED them. Testing is ongoing…
The conclusion : these shafts are velocore levels of stable in lighter weights and I am a total convert to @jumbomaxgrips . But as a single strap Sunday bag man I might have to consider a bigger bag to get 13 of these babies in there! Always fun to meet people who love golf as much as these guys, of course it always helps when they’re professional sportspeople. Like a lot of Cricketers Ravi and Dan have speed to burn. The guys really wanted to know how different equipment affected their performance. We took them through our process, data collection on Load/unload, ball data/ set goals for the session. Finally change specs to deliver . It’s great having team mates in the studio, the banter levels are off the charts! Combining competitive testing for performance with a bit of fun all round.
